Truth or Traditions

(Mt 7, 24-27, 16:17; Mk 7:9; Jer 10:1-3; De 12:29-31; Lev 23; Ph 1:6; Heb 2:5-11)

If  you were back in Bible times, do you think it would be said

Let's put on costumes, buy some candy, talk of demons and the dead.

Ghosts and goblins, witches, cats, lights in a pumpkin's head.

Would you ask for treats or play a trick while others slept in bed?

Do these things come from the Bible? Are they the things that God commands?

Or are they the work of people worshiping gods of their own minds and hands?

Is your faith built on the rock or just on shifting sands?

Do you reject the Word of God to keep traditions of the lands?

Chorus:  If you worshiped a God of truth, would you live and teach a lie?

Would you take the ways of false gods and to that God apply?

Would you talk of costumes, tricks and treats and forget about God's Word

Or teach your children God's ways and make sure it's truth they heard?

The Celtic time of Samhain was a festival of the dead.

They also served the sun god Bel as source of their grain and bread.

When the days grew short in autumn time there was a night of fear and dread

With wicked spirits everywhere just hoping to be fed.

What is God's opinion of this?  Has His Word made it plain?

Learn not the ways of the peoples for their customs are vain.

Don't fear the signs of heaven as the seasons wax and wane.

Don't serve me as they serve their gods for even their children they've slain.

Chorus

Well there is something better than these customs so absurd.

We don't have to think them up for God reveals them in His Word.

Through His Holy Days God reveals a most marvelous plan;

The way He's working now with us, the destiny of man.

Chorus

Let's teach the people God's ways and make sure it's Truth they've heard.
