Peace Like A River

"Let your heart not be troubled and let it not fear"

Says Christ to those who will hear.

"My peace I give to you, My peace I leave with you,

To those who are called, far and near."

Chorus:  "Peace like a river so gently flowing,

Peace like a river do I give to you.

Not as the world gives with strife and confusion,

But peace like a river do I give to you."

Wars and oppression, tears and sorrow,

People talk about peace, is there hope for tomorrow?

The way of peace men have not known,

Their crooked paths lead to destruction.

Where do wars and fights come from among you?

Your lusts and desires and your pleasures you pursue.

You murder and covet and cannot obtain

Because you seek your own ways.

 Chorus

"Oh that you had heeded my commands," says the Eternal,

Then your peace would have been like the river.

The work of righteousness shall be peace,

 And quietness and assurance forever."

Yes the meek shall inherit the earth and delight themselves

 In the abundance of peace.

When Christ returns to rule the earth,

The wars and the strife will cease.

 Chorus

Great peace have those who love God's law

And nothing will cause them to stumble.

God makes even enemies dwell at peace,

With those who are pleasing and humble.

Be small in your own eyes be eager to serve,

Let nothing be done from ambition or strife,

God gives those who trust Him rivers of pleasure

And water from the fountain of life.

 Chorus

"Peace like a river do I give to you."
